One of the largest greenhouse producers and suppliers in North America needed a quality management system to replace labor-intensive and redundant record keeping processes. Growers and sales personnel needed real-time access to quality and commodity grade attributes and inspection data. Additionally, they needed visibility into operational trends to improve decision-making and help them predict when quality issues may occur.
SafetyChain's Quality Assurance solution system was the perfect fit as it is the most robust and functional quality tool on the market. With SafetyChain Quality Assurance, the organization has enhanced inventory visibility, with warehouse inventory linked to inspection results for integrated data management. Data trending models enable the team to apply preventive strategies to improve product and increase business efficiency. This puts executives, managers, sales persons, and growers at the forefront of effective decision-making for increased profitability.
"This technology changed our entire process in how we do these four things: data collection, data analysis, data distribution, and recordkeeping. The impact is lower cost and increased confidence in our product."
Product: Consumer food ingredients
Industry: Grain Production
A GFSI-certified producer of high-grade wheat for cereal ingredients does most of their business in bulk and transports outbound product via rail cars. They wanted to replace their paper-based method of collecting sanitation records for rail car cleaning as well as manage high volume of other food safety data in their facilities to support SQF audits, food safety programs, and inquiry response.
SafetyChain's Food Safety solution enabled the food safey team to collect data for their rail car cleaning program using tablets and incorporate photos into safety checks for outbound cars. In the event of a customer inquiry, the organization can access the record from a centralized repository and provide a visual record of the condition of cars with verified photos of outbound car conditions along with time-and date-stamped approvals. The data collected facility wide can now be tracked to SQF code within a centralized repository.
"When we do a rail car cleaning, our SafetyChain workflow includes the ability to take photographs of the interior of the car. We can now show the customer that when the car left our facility, it left in sanitary condition. This has reduced our downstream complaints significantly and it gives us the ability to demonstrate our commitment to food safety to our customers in a whole new way."
Product: Ready-to-eat products
Artisan manufacturer of gourmet dips needed a supplier compliance solution to manage vendor approvals and documents for a large number of suppliers. They also needed to tie their supplier compliance data to a GMO-free program to help them prepare for audits. Additionally, their pen-and-paper method of collecting data did not provide the real-time visibility into plant operations that managers and directors needed to ensure task completion and respond to non-conformances.
SafetyChain's Supplier Compliance solution system aligned well with their needs, with a supplier portal that gives vendors the ability to see what is required and upload documentation for review and approval. With SafetyChain Supplier Compliance, plant managers can receive alerts when tasks are overdue or supplier documents are nearing expiration or are no longer compliant. With all non-GMO program supplier documentation in a centralized repository, audits are much easier.
"For non-GMO product, it can be challenging to get paperwork in on deadline. Having that set up in a portal where it is as simple as clicking a couple of buttons makes my life so much easier. The fact that our product is a high-risk food and a ready-to-eat food makes it crucial that we get it right. SafetyChain reduces human error and eliminates the possibility of people getting left out of the loop due to the limitations of paper."
