SafetyChain Frequently Asked Questions

About SafetyChain

SafetyChain is a digital plant management platform for food and beverage manufacturers, used in more than 2,500 facilities. It replaces paper logs, spreadsheets and disconnected point tools with one connected system for food safety programs, in-process quality, regulatory and customer compliance, production monitoring, SPC and supplier compliance. QA and production teams work from the same real-time data, so deviations get caught on the line instead of in next week's review.
Food and beverage manufacturers, from single-plant producers to multi-site enterprises. Customers span meat and poultry, dairy, baking, produce, bottling, coffee and tea, confectionery, CPG, packaging, and co-manufacturing. FSQA teams are usually the first users, and production, plant management, maintenance and corporate leadership join on the same platform.
SafetyChain is built for food and beverage plants, with SQF, BRCGS, FSSC 22000, HACCP and FSMA programs supported out of the box. Paper and spreadsheets record what happened. SafetyChain flags a failed check the moment it's entered and launches the corrective action from the same record. A generic QMS covers documents and CAPAs but not the plant floor. SafetyChain connects quality checks to production data such as weights, temperatures and line status, so one system covers both.

Compliance & Audits

FSMA 204 requires manufacturers handling foods on the FDA's Food Traceability List to keep traceability records and hand them to the FDA within 24 hours of a request. The compliance date is July 20, 2028. SafetyChain captures receiving, production and shipping records digitally and with timestamps, so you can pull them in minutes instead of digging through binders.
Yes. SafetyChain digitizes the programs GFSI auditors review, including pre-op and master sanitation, GMP, HACCP monitoring, facility audits, receiving inspections and CAPA. Records are complete, timestamped and searchable, so your team pulls evidence on request instead of rebuilding it. At Joyce Farms, the quality assurance manager reported: "The BRC auditor said this was the smoothest and easiest audit he has ever conducted."
SafetyChain supports 21 CFR Part 11 requirements with secure, computer-generated audit trails, unique user credentials, role-based access and electronic signatures linked to each record. Part 11 compliance also depends on your own procedures and validation, and SafetyChain's team can walk you through how customers document it.
You stay audit-ready instead of preparing for audits. Every check, sign-off and corrective action is stored digitally against its record, so you can filter and export audit evidence by program, date or line in minutes. Customers report up to 80% less audit prep time.

Quality & Plant Floor Operations

Two layers work together:
  • Automated Tasks, Notifications & Workflows fire the moment a check fails or a threshold is breached, routing alerts to the right person so there's no guesswork.
  • A CAPA can be launched directly from the failed record with a single "+CAPA" button - the record auto-links to the CAPA for a complete chain of evidence, and the corrective action routes through a configurable workflow (tasks, approvals, closure).
Very: operators get a simplified SPC view showing sample averages against spec limits, while supervisors and quality staff see the full SPC chart from the same data.
SafetyChain's Enhanced Operational SPC Charts offer role-based views: a simplified, operator-focused view (emphasizing sample averages vs. spec limits, fewer secondary visuals, configurable plot windows showing just recent data) runs alongside a full traditional SPC view for supervisors/quality/continuous-improvement staff — same underlying data, different complexity level, so non-technical floor users aren't shown an overwhelming chart.
Operators enter data through the SafetyChain app on the production floor instead of paper. There are three versions of the app: iOS, Android, and Windows. The iOS and Android apps run on tablets and smartphones, and the Windows app can be used on a workstation, laptop, or mobile Windows device.
Yes, the Mobile App has offline data capture built in, so frontline workers can collect data anytime, even in areas with limited or no internet connectivity; data syncs once connection is restored.
Yes. Suppliers upload certificates and documents through a secure, self-service portal, and SafetyChain tracks expiration dates, approvals and requirements for each supplier and item. Scorecards and risk assessments show which suppliers are falling out of compliance before it becomes an audit finding.
Yes. SafetyChain AI brings Decision Intelligence to your plant. It reads your quality, production and supplier data as it comes in, then puts early warnings and next steps in front of the right person while there's still time to act. Depending on your package, SafetyChain AI can:
  • Flag SPC patterns that are trending wrong before a control limit is breached
  • Pre-fill each CAPA with the corrective actions that resolved similar issues fastest at your plant
  • Score incoming lots against COA history, receiving results, audits and corrective actions before inspection starts
  • Answer plain-language questions, like why Line 2 missed yield yesterday, from your plant data
SafetyChain AI recommends; it doesn't decide. Every recommendation shows the data behind it. Your team accepts, adjusts or sets it aside, and the decision is logged either way.

Integrations, Devices & Security

SafetyChain is designed to sit inside your existing tech stack rather than replace pieces of it.
  • ERP — master data (users, roles, items) syncs in; quality outcomes (hold/release) push back out
  • WMS (Warehouse Management Systems) — receiving inspection tasks can be auto-created from WMS events; inspection results shared back for supplier compensation programs
  • Maintenance platforms — quality outcomes can trigger downstream maintenance workflows
  • Business intelligence tools — direct Power BI Connector (scheduled refreshes, flexible filtering); Record Data Extract API feeds any BI/data warehouse tool generically
  • SCADA/plant-floor equipment — via the SafetyChain Module for Ignition™ (temperatures, weights, line status, continuous process data)
  • LIMS, PLM, supplier portals, label verification apps, vision systems — via the newer Record Attachments API, which lets these external systems deposit files (images, docs) directly onto a specific SafetyChain record field — built originally for a label-verification use case but generalized for any of these system types.
SafetyChain runs on iOS, Android and Windows, so your team can use the tablets, phones and workstations you already have. You can configure forms, workflows and dashboards to match how each plant works, and translate them for multilingual crews.
By default, SafetyChain displays in English. Additional language options include:
  • German
  • Spanish (Spain)
  • Spanish (United States)
  • French
  • Chinese
For ERP, MES and SCADA connections, see the integrations answer above.
SafetyChain completed a SOC 2 Type 2 audit, conducted by Sensiba LLP, covering May through October 2025 (announcement). The platform runs on Microsoft Azure with encrypted data, role-based permissions and private cloud tenancy, so your data is never co-mingled with another customer's. A DevOps team monitors the platform around the clock, and built-in redundancy covers hardware failures. Customers can request the SOC 2 report through the SafetyChain Trust Center.
You own your data. You can export records at any time through standard reports, the Record Data Extract API and the Power BI Connector, and send them to your own data warehouse or BI tool. Because SafetyChain uses private cloud tenancy, your data is never co-mingled with another customer's.

Implementation & Support

Most single-facility customers go live in 8–12 weeks. Rollout is phased, so forms and processes go live as they're built instead of in one cutover at the end. Onboarding starts with an onsite kickoff led by your Continuous Improvement Coach, backed by a project manager and an implementation team. There's a one-time setup fee based on the number of facilities and the package you choose. Death Wish Coffee built its forms in a few weeks, then spent one week in training before go-live.
Yes. Every customer keeps a dedicated Continuous Improvement Coach after go-live, and support is included in your subscription at no extra cost. Live support runs Monday–Friday, 7 AM–7 PM CT. Call +1-888-235-7540 (option 1) or email support@safetychain.com, which typically gets a reply within one business hour. For after-hours emergencies, call +1-847-798-6060, available 24/7. You'll also get monthly live training webinars, executive business reviews and an invitation to the annual customer summit. See the Customer Support page.
Very little. Forms, workflows and reports are no-code, so quality and operations teams configure them without developers, and SafetyChain's implementation team handles setup. IT typically joins for device rollout, single sign-on and any ERP, WMS or SCADA integrations.

Pricing & ROI

SafetyChain is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform, with a monthly subscription cost per facility. Our tiered packaging and flexible add-on options are designed to meet food and beverage manufacturers’ varying needs.
Unlike most software companies, there is no user-based pricing so you will never pay more to add additional users.
  • No limit to the number of documents imported (SOPs, process documents, or program documents)
  • No extra licenses or additional tools are required for reporting and visualization (such as Tableau).
  • No additional costs for ongoing support.
  • No charge for data storage or number of mobile/devices used.
Customers regularly reach 5x ROI within four months, and typical plant impact is about $900,000 a year across yield, productivity, labor and compliance. Lincoln Premium Poultry cut yield loss on its further-processing line from about 24% to about 6%. Death Wish Coffee cut waste 75% and saves $5.4M a year after moving weight checks to digital.
