These four steps keep your tablet working and your checks on record from freezer to shift handoff
Food and beverage cold zones are hard on tablets, and your sanitation checks depend on them. Cold can shut a device down, condensation forms on the way out, and a missed step leaves a gap in your records. This one-page checklist gives your plant and FSQA teams a shared routine for every entry, exit and shift handoff.
What’s inside the cold storage tablet checklist
The checklist walks you through four stages of a tablet’s day in the cold zone. Each stage has check boxes, and three of them carry a DON’T flag so your team sees what to avoid at a glance.
- Going in: Start with a clean, charged tablet in an inner pocket, if your GMP policy allows.
- In the freezer: Keep it warm between uses, and record missed checks to finish once it’s back up.
- Coming out: Rest it about five minutes in a transition zone, wipe off condensation, check ports and seams.
- Daily clean: Power down, remove the case, wipe with 70% isopropyl alcohol and air dry fully.
- Sign-off: Log device ID, date, shift, initials and who verified it, so every handoff leaves a record.
Why your cold zones break tablet routines
Layers, gloves and a busy shift make it easy to skip a step at the door. A tablet left on a cart, shut off mid-check or plugged in while still cold leaves you chasing a record that should already be there.
Check it against your own procedures
Your device maker’s cleaning guidance and your sanitation program come first. Review both before you change a procedure. If your team works in the cold all shift, look at rugged tablets with insulated batteries or internal heaters.
Keep your sanitation checks consistent across shifts
A checklist keeps one tablet on track. SafetyChain helps you run sanitation checks the same way on every shift, across your plant. See how it works.
